I Hate The Gas Station

Today I went to the gas station. Doesn't sound like anything out of the ordinary does it? The act itself was not anything that I wouldn't do in an ordinary week, however the price that I paid was something I have never experienced. I drive a small car and was shocked to see that $20 did not even give me half a tank of fuel. For many drivers, myself included, there's not much that I can do to reduce the amount that I drive. I don't actually drive that much right now but the cost of a normal fill-up is making me think twice about taking the car for a spin. At one time my wife and I enjoyed taking evening drives by the lake, just to look at the boats, or we would drive 1/2 hr to go out for dinner or for a coffee, but that's got to stop. I simply cannot afford it anymore. I've racked my brain trying to find ways to decrease our gas consumption, but there's little that we can do. My wife has to drive to work each day and whether we like it or not, it costs money. Thankfully she doesn't have far to drive. Our real gas issue comes on the weekends as both our families live away from us. We are both fairly close to our families and each lives about a 1hr drive from us. A trip to their house and back can easily cost $25. We aren't poor, but $25 per trip really adds up! How are you dealing with the high price of fuel? I would appreciate your comments. |
